Heroic New York police officer braves icy lake to rescue dog

Footage released by the Lewiston Police Department shows Officer John Smith racing to rescue a dog that fell into the icy water of a partially frozen lake. The dog “was trapped in the water about 50 yards from shore,” the department said. “Without hesitation [Smith] removed his equipment and went in after him, bringing him safely back to land and reuniting him with his owner.”
