Genevieve weakens after becoming first Category 5 in Eastern Pacific since 2024
Genevieve weakened to a Category 1 hurricane Thursday morning after becoming this Eastern Pacific's first Category 5 storm since 2024. Dry air is now beginning to impinge on the western side of the storm. Going forward Genevieve will continue to gradually weaken as it moves over progressively cooler water temperatures and into a drier airmass. The storm will dissipate early next week about 1,000 miles north of Hawaii. It poses no threat to land.
