Monitoring the Atlantic for tropical development as peak of hurricane season approaches

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is continuing to monitor a tropical disturbance that emerged off the coast of Africa last weekend, and forecasters are saying it will likely become Tropical Depression Seven later this week or over the weekend. Right now, the NHC is giving the system a medium chance of development over the next two days and a high chance of developing over the next week. Exactly where this system will track remains very much an open question since it has not yet fully formed.
