Super typhoon Sinlaku bears down on Guam and Northern Mariana Islands
Typhoon Sinlaku exploded into a super typhoon with winds reaching those of a Category 5 hurricane. The powerful storm is now forecast to pass north and east of Guam, but could potentially impact the Northern Mariana Islands with a direct hit possible on Saipan early Tuesday morning. Sinlaku reached wind speeds of 175 mph early Monday and is expected to weaken slightly as it approaches the U.S. territories.
