Hurricane Polo reaches historic strength in the Pacific, fueling dangerous New Mexico floods

Hurricane Polo exploded into the second-strongest hurricane recorded in the Eastern Pacific Tuesday, a little more than a day after first becoming a hurricane. Moisture from Polo is also enhancing a dangerous flash flood threat across the U.S. Southwest through Friday. A Flash Flood Warning was in effect early Wednesday across parts of southern New Mexico, including Las Cruces, as well as El Paso, Texas. That follows a Flash Flood Emergency that led to evacuations across Mora County, New Mexico, on Tuesday afternoon.
