DRAMATIC RESCUE: A 70-year-old fisherman was rescued after spending six days alone in the wilderness of Fresno County, California, as rescuers utilized a helicopter to airlift the victim for medical treatment.
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. - A 70-year-old California man missing for six days was rescued by helicopter on the Fourth of July, according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
The man had last been seen on June 28, after he left his house in the morning to go fishing, according to authorities.

After he did not return home later that day, his family reported him missing to the sheriff’s office. That same afternoon, his pickup truck was spotted driving near Pine Flat Lake, leading authorities to deploy the county search and rescue team to the area.

After searching the area for six days, a volunteer Air Squadron member spotted the man's truck around 1 p.m. Saturday in a remote area about 20 miles northeast of Pine Flat Lake.
Search teams responded 90 minutes later, and found him about 500 feet from his pickup truck.
Because of the rugged terrain, the California Highway Patrol used a helicopter to lift him from the scene, and he was transported to medical personnel for evaluation.

According to the sheriff’s office, he was "alive, alert and in good health."
Authorities have not released any more information about how or why the man was in such a remote area for six days, and are working to learn more.
