FOX Weather team volunteers at Bowery Mission: Here's how you can help

In the last year alone, volunteers have prepped and served more than 425,000 meals, helping over 7,000 people in need.

FOX Weather's Amy Freeze, Craig Herrera and Will Nunley volunteered at The Bowery Mission on Monday, Nov. 22, 2021 ahead of Thanksgiving.

The organization serves thousands of homeless and hungry New Yorkers with the help of volunteers and donations. The Bowery Mission started in the 1870s, when its flagship location in the Lower East Side of Manhattan came to define the term "skid row."

In the last year alone, volunteers have prepped and served more than 425,000 meals, helping over 7,000 people in need. The FOX Weather team, with help from other volunteers, prepared over 100 ham and cheese sandwiches. They also packed hot meals to be delivered for lunchtime.

The Bowery Mission is a results-oriented organization that is recognized as one of New York City's most effective. The organization says each meal and every service is an invitation to residential and community programs that help clients make progress towards individual goals such as regaining sobriety, reconnecting with family and faith, and preparing for work and independent living.

They also offer year-round opportunities for the youth.

There are multiple ways to get involved in the work of The Bowery Mission.
