FOX Weather Kickoff: Week 10 NFL on FOX picks based on weather forecasts

This week's matchups feature two teams who have had disappointing seasons thus far but will attempt to jump-start the second half of their seasons with wins against Super Bowl contenders.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers return to the site of their first wild-card victory in last season's playoffs at FedEx Field.

Losing six of eight games this year has washed away most of Washington's playoff hopes this season. The 6-2 Buccaneers are rolling and trying not to take what should be an easy victory Sunday for granted.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have won four straight after beginning the season 1-3 and find themselves in the same situation as the Buccaneers, facing a team they should beat as the winless Detroit Lions come to town.

On Fridays throughout the season, we pick FOX NFL games based on how teams have historically performed in certain weather conditions using data from SportsWeather.

SportsWeather.com season record: 20-9

SportsWeather has its own metrics system that compiles historical game-time weather data and meshes it against both NFL teams and player historical performance.

SportsWeather doesn’t compile data for games that are played in domes and all data is from the last 14 seasons.

GAME 1: Detroit Lions (0-8) at Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) - 1 p.m. Eastern on FOX

It's going to be a cold one in Pittsburgh on Sunday, and historically speaking, that doesn't bode well for the dome team Detroit Lions.

It's forecast to be 35 degrees, with winds blowing at 10 mph at game time. In those conditions, the Steelers are 28-15 when the temperature is at 35 degrees and 32-22-1 when winds are blowing at 10 mph. While the Lions have underperformed, coming in at 2-12 and 11-29-1, respectively.

There's also a 33% chance of precipitation and when that happens the Lions aren't any better with a 1-9 record. The Steelers stand at 14-6.

PICK: SportsWeather.com gives the weather edge to the Steelers and predicts them to beat the winless Lions.

GAME 2: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2) at Washington Football Team (2-6) - 1 p.m. Eastern on FOX

This will be your typical football weather in November for this rematch of last year's wild card game in Landover, MD. It's expected to be 48 degrees at the start of the game with a slight breeze, as winds are forecast to be blowing at 4 mph.

In games where the temperature was 48 degrees, Tampa Bay is 5-10 and Washington is 14-32. When playing in games where the wind was blowing at 4 mph, Tampa comes in at 54-76, while Washington is 44-75-1.

There's no precipitation expected in Landover by game time. Tampa Bay is 69-83 and Washington is 70-93-1 when that takes place.

PICK: SportsWeather.com gives the weather edge to the Buccaneers and predicts them to beat Washington.
