WATCH: Dust storm engulfs Denver

Cold front brought high winds Sunday

DENVER – A dust storm swept through the Denver area over the weekend.

Video recorded by a law firm’s livestream camera showed the apocalyptic scene as it unfolded about 2 p.m. Sunday.

FOX Weather Senior Digital Content Producer and meteorologist Heather Brinkmann shared this image of an obscured Denver skyline on Twitter.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, Colorado, gusty northeast winds lifted the dust and pushed it through the region.

The Denver International Airport reported blowing dust and a wind gust of 46 mph just before 3 p.m.

"We actually get these dust storms often," Brinkmann, who lives in Denver, said. "The dust just sits at the base of the mountain until a wind shift, or front, like in yesterday's case."

Gusts as high as 85 mph were reported in parts of the Denver region in the 12 hours that preceded the dust storm, according to the NWS.
