The Pensacola Fire Department said that emergency response was suspended at 7:01 p.m. due to the rapidly deteriorating conditions, but firefighters jumped into action after receiving a call of a house fire with a child potentially trapped inside.

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Pensacola Fire Department released dramatic body camera video of firefighters responding to a house fire amid extreme wind gusts from Hurricane Isaias which was less than two hours from landfall along the Florida Panhandle.

The intense video provides a first-person perspective of firefighters racing to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses, where people were sheltering in place as the hurricane approached.

Isaias made landfall near Destin, Florida at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET on Oct. 9 as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph. A top wind gust of 118 mph was recorded in Jay. Nearby video shared with FOX Weather showed trees snapped in half.

The Pensacola Fire Department said that emergency response was suspended at 7:01 p.m. due to the rapidly deteriorating conditions, but firefighters jumped into action after receiving a call of a house fire with a child potentially trapped inside.

As firefighters got on scene, they found that everyone inside the home had escaped, but then quickly turned their attention to stopping the fire's spread.

"We recognize the dedication of our firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel who answered the call under exceptionally challenging circumstances," the department said in a social media statement.

"This incident highlights the difficult decisions emergency responders face during severe weather," the department added.

Falling trees and a generator-related carbon monoxide incident killed 4 people across Florida and Alabama as Isaias carved a destructive path through the Southeast.

Isaias made landfall just one hour shy of two years after Hurricane Milton came ashore near Siesta Key, Florida, the previous hurricane to make landfall in the U.S.
