According to NASA, teams in the U.S. and India have collected data from two powerful radar instruments aboard the ISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite, which revealed a fractured, barren surface of an Antarctic landscape in stunning detail.

This is done to help researchers track the movement of Earth's land and ice masses, monitor changes in ecosystems such as forests and wetlands, and respond to natural disasters such as landslides and earthquakes.
New detailed images from the Antarctic reveal a merge of science and serendipity, as a figure most similar to a hummingbird was captured on the icy surface.

"Despite its otherworldly quality, the Antarctic image shows a very real geographical feature called Nunatak Zaterjavshijsja, a mountaintop in East Antarctica, poking out amid a stream of ice flowing northeast to the ocean," NASA said.
As the glacier continues to move, the mountain’s topography puts stress on the ice, fracturing it into deep cracks called crevasses, which appear as green lines in the image, according to NASA.
