SEATTLE, Wash. – A magnitude 4.2 earthquake struck outside Seattle on the Kitsap Peninsula, with thousands of people across Washington reporting that they felt the shaking.
The earthquake occurred roughly three miles west-northwest of Wauna, about 21 miles southwest of Seattle, at 2:05 p.m. PDT on Tuesday, at a depth of roughly 17 miles.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), thousands of people across Washington reported feeling weak shaking, including in Tacoma, Olympia, Bremerton and Seattle.
CAN CONCERTS AND SPORTING EVENTS CAUSE EARTHQUAKES?
The USGS estimates there is a low likelihood of casualties or damage. Most people in the Pacific Northwest live in structures designed to withstand earthquake shaking, though vulnerable buildings remain.

The USGS released an aftershock forecast estimating a 5% chance of at least one additional magnitude 4 or greater earthquake in the area within the next day, along with a 27% chance of at least one magnitude 3 or greater earthquake. Over the next week, those probabilities rise to 8% and 38%, respectively.
The National Tsunami Warning Center issued no tsunami warning, advisory, watch or threat.
The USGS reports that there was a separate magnitude 4.7 earthquake that rattled the California coast earlier Tuesday.
